This industrial site is located by the sea in North Greece, less than an hour drive from Thessaloniki, and is one of the sites where salt has been extracted from sea water for years. It is still in use but with some areas being in a derelict state. The very interesting thing of this place, apart from the salt mountains, are the traces of the old small Decauville train that was used for transferring salt along the site. There’s parts of the rails used in the fabric of the old buildings, there’s small waggons lying in the fields destroyed and rusted, rails here and there dispersed on site. Within the site next to the main entrance there’s a designated area where people go and take salty mud baths for rejuvenation of the skin and cure of skin diseases, and the best is that’s for free. Go for it.
