In Greece there are hundreds of villages that have been abandoned throughout the years for various reasons. The main reason during the previous century was seeking a better life in the cities or abroad, some were also abandoned during the Civil War of 1946-49. One of these many victim villages is located on the foot of the legendary Mountain Olympus. Most of the houses are not there anymore with only some ruins left behind and lots of stones scattered around in the fields. The cemetery area has no graves left and is only fenced around, probably to retain the status of the plot, whichever that is. There is a very old church with beautiful paintings and frescoes which is looked after by some locals of the nearby villages. Also a big concrete outdoors cistern for storing water, most likely built for the animal farmers. A generally nice location, worth visiting if in the area.
